ShoreExcursions.com offers a variety of excellent shore excursions in Astoria.
Astoria is a port city of 10,000 residents in the northwest corner of Oregon on the south shore of the Columbia River. It is located right where the river flows into the Pacific Ocean. Founded in 1811, Astoria is the oldest city in the state of Oregon and was the first American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains.
A must-see sight in Astoria is the Astoria Column, a landmark almost 100 years old, is a 125-foot tall tower that overlooks the mouth of the Columbia River. Visitors today can still climb the 164 step spiral staircase to the observation deck at the top of the column. Telescopes at the top provide even better views of the Columbia River, the Astoria-Megler Bridge, and the Pacific Ocean on clear days. The Astoria Column was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
Astoria was made famous by the 1985 adventure-comedy movie The Goonies. Throughout downtown and the “Goon Docks” you will see memorabilia proudly displayed.
