Unincorporated Ward Cove (also Wacker, Wacker City, or Wards Cove) is a place in Alaska’s Ketchikan Gateway Borough. The community is located 4.5 miles (7.25 km) northwest of Ketchikan in Ward Cove on the northern edge of Revillagigedo Island. This is a relatively new port being used by some cruise lines as an alternative to docking in Ketchikan.
Along the highway, this town forms an extension of the Ketchikan settlement area. In Ward Cove, W. W. Waud developed a saltery between 1883 and 1884. The Wacker post office was established in 1920, and Eugene Wacker served as its first postmaster. In 1951, the name of the post office was changed to Wards Cove, and in 1954, it became Ward Cove. In the village, 57 people were counted in the 1930 census. The Board on Geographic Names officially recognized the name “Ward Cove” in 1966.
